Two Decades Of Work Against Gun Violence and Illegal Guns
Jason’s first job after college was helping research gun violence as a public health issue for the Violence Prevention Research Program at the UC Davis School of Medicine. A pro-gun Congress later cut funding for that program, but Jason kept fighting. He interned at the San Francisco City Attorney’s office helping represent the County against gun manufacturers and dealers; then took his first law job at a firm where he continued to help lead lawsuits and represent cities and counties against the same gun manufacturers. Jason also was a member of Mayors Against Gun Violence both times he was Mayor, and championed common-sense gun violence reforms throughout the County. He has been recognized for his contribution to gun violence research including in this article in the Journal of Trauma about the effectiveness of background checks and evidence based way to improve related laws.
